See You in September

2008-09-01

Summer's almost gone, and we're already buried under a storm of invitations for the new season. Herewith is an abbreviated list of 'Berg wide happenings worth checking out: John O'Connor "Flannel Tongue" at Pierogi. These large scaled colored pencil drawings take the idea of graphic representation of data and twists it into a goofball Origami that is nonetheless visually captivating. Erik Guzman "Who Made Who" at Front Room. Kinetic sculptures crafted from polished metal and plastic, that look like speed-shop accessories with an implied potential for danger. Shaun El C. Leonardo and Clifford Owens "Some things we do together" at Momenta Art. A series of performances dealing with the ideas of "exclusivity, privilege, privacy and personal boundaries", sounds like a Gagosian opening. "Party at Phong's House" at Galeria Janet Kurnatowski, created by Chris Martin. Drop in to see who Williamsburg's favorite artist is pickin-to-click in this homage to the beloved publisher of The Brooklyn Rail. Saturday September 6, Secret Project Robot, "The Third Anual Monster Island Arts and Music Festival Block Party" is an all day bash with music, food, performances and mischeif like you'll only find in Williamsburg.
